Generative Artificial Intelligence Policy
With the rapid acceleration of generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) use in marketing today, I firmly believe we all need to be 100% transparent about how we are using these tools.
(Generative AI means software used to generate content as opposed to robotic AI which is used in robots.)
Synthetic media is flooding our social media, advertising, news and politics. As a result, trust is eroding. There are resumes AI’d to fit an exact job description. Blog posts and articles that were AI’d and never reviewed by a human. There are photos created by AI which look real but aren’t.
More and more, people are being duped into believing content is real, when it’s fake. Social media is especially prone to AI content that looks real so people believe Tom Hanks died, the Pope sells drugs and Blake Lively’s head belongs on Taylor Swift’s body.
Each of us as news consumers and as business people need to educate and combat the abuses of AI to protect ourselves and our society.
I’ve learned in my 29+ year career that being first on the band wagon can be disastrous. I want YCL to be on the first wave but only after I’ve investigated, researched and tested for myself and then I will feel empowered to share with my network.
At this time, I’m still in the investigating and testing phase with AI. Some of the AI tools make me uncomfortable. Some simply boggle my mind! I read about, see and feel the massive amount of fear, FOMO and hype around AI in general.
As an entrepreneur and marketer, I have always had a deep commitment to relationships first. My connection with my fellow humans is at the core of everything I do. YCL has always strived to build life-long clients.
Following is the current policy of Your Computer Lady on how my team and I utilize generative AI tools in our work both for Your Computer Lady and for our clients. I will keep this policy updated regularly, should there be any changes.
AI Principles
- YCL practices a fully human-centered approach to AI that empowers people.
- YCL believes humans must remain in the loop in all AI applications. Humans are 100% accountable for all decisions and actions, even when assisted by AI.
- YCL believes human knowledge, experience, emotion, intuition, instinct and imagination are critical to every business and every business activity.
- YCL believes in the power of the written word, images, audios and videos to educate, influence and affect change.
- YCL commits to being fully transparent – with disclosures and watermarks – anywhere my team and I use generative AI technology.
- YCL believes that transparency in data collection and AI usage is crucial in order to maintain the trust of our clients, our community at large and our business partners.
- YCL believes in the importance of privacy, including strict adherence to data privacy laws and the mitigation of privacy risks for consumers. Our decisions will reflect this even when legal precedent lags behind AI innovation.
- YCL believes intelligent automation with AI can be done without dehumanization. The potential of AI automation can have profound benefits for humanity and society.
- YCL will share my own AI research, knowledge, ideas, experiences and processes in order to advance YCL , my clients’ businesses and society.
- YCL believes in the importance of life long learning for professionals as well as every day individuals. AI can be used to build more fulfilling careers and lives.
How YCL Uses AI Today
YCL is constantly experimenting with AI technologies and new softwares of all types to drive efficiency and performance across many business functions. The primary use of AI today is in the generative AI space for marketing. Specifically, that means ideation, brainstorming, research and image creation for YCL’s own marketing and business functions. In addition, YCL utilizes generative AI for client work including social media, website content, email marketing and marketing strategy.
YCL uses a variety of Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) products for the following functions with current tools indicated in parentheses:
- Content generation (ChatGPT, Claude)
- Image generation (ChatGPT, Canva, Mid-Journey)
- Marketing Strategy (ChatGPT)
- Email creation (Constant Contact, MailChimp)
- Accounting (QuickBooks)
