As of June 15, 2002, IE is out of service.
If you try to open the program on your computer, you will get a message like this one:
You will still see the icon on your Start menu or taskbar. When you try to access it however, Microsoft Edge will open. In an upcoming Windows update, IE will completely disappear.
Good news! You can migrate your favorites, passwords and settings from IE to Edge. You may rarely find a website that will only work with IE – often older government or nonprofit sites. If you run across one of these sites, you can have Edge work in “IE Mode.”
Give Edge a Try
- Competitive speed as Edge is leaner software than IE.
- You can save text from a website in a Collection, not just bookmark pages.
- You can set up a “My Feed” starting page with news, videos or content you prefer.
- Simple privacy controls.
- You can use tabs on the left side of your screen instead of only across the top.
- “Immersive Reader” displays web pages in a cleaner, less distracting format.
- You can use Chrome extensions since there are so many of them already out there instead of waiting for an Edge extension.
- You can sync your Edge bookmarks, passwords, etc. to your phone whether Android or iOS.
