Your Computer Lady was selected by Constant Contact as an All Star recipient for the 12+ year! Only 10% of all of Constant Contact’s referral partners receive this designation. It is based on not just on the number of clients YCL has at CtCt but also on the quality of the email lists, the Open Rates and Click Rates of all YCL client emails. This recognition assures you that YCL does know about email marketing and how to do it successfully. YCL believes that email marketing is the best tool available to the small business person to promote their business and build client relationships. If you aren’t using it, call Pamela TODAY!
Reviews
Don’t ask for client reviews once. Ask many times in many different ways! You can’t tell when a client will have the time and the focus to do a review. So ask often and make it easy! Here is a good example. Event Espresso is a plug-in for WordPress to organize events and ticket sales. They did a 7 day series of email lessons. At the bottom of #7, they inserted a link to their Twitter profile. They asked for a tweet. This is an easy type of review request. I didn’t have to think of what to write, look up their Twitter ID. Nothing like that! Click on the link and share the word.
Email Marketing
This graphic based on data from SalesForce reminds us that changing a prospect into a real lead then into a sale takes multiple actions. There is no silver bullet that will convert that prospect instantaneously. Email marketing is a good tool in that cycle of touches. Not the only one but a really good one. It can be automated. It can re-use content you have already written. It is low cost. You can measure its effectiveness.
If you manage a Facebook Group, you need to be sure you are gathering emails from that group! Facebook owns the group. You own the emails! And having emails open so many marketing doors for you. Here are detailed instructions from Social Media Examiner on how to gather emails from a group.

Email Marketing
Here is a great example of how to waste your email time and money. The From is “service.” Who the heck is that? Looks like spam so I’m not opening it. The Subject line is “dry cleaning coupon.” I don’t need a coupon today and it’s Monday morning. Delete!! The opening line (which I can see in my preview) is “Dear Valued Customer.” Yeah. I’m so valued that I’m anonymous. And let’s go one more. I have never done business with this dry cleaner; I have no clue how they got my email address so I am not happy about that. They probably bought an email list somewhere. But I have no interest in their product so the email is a total waste. They’ve only irritated me. If I should need a dry cleaner soon, do you think I’ll go to them?
Social Media Influencer
The use of Influencers in social media is growing. What is that you ask? An Influencer is someone who has their own social media network. You connect with them to get recommendations. So the Image Consultant connects to the Premier Jewelry consultant and the cabi consultant. Her reach is extended. She gets instant credibility from the people who trust the other two consultants. Influencers with large followings can be paid or compensated in some way for their posts. Who could be an Influencer for your business?
Don’t Get Scammed!
I had another client get scammed last week by the “Microsoft noticed that your computer has a virus and we want to help” message that commandeers your computer.
MICROSOFT NEVER EVER CONTACTS YOU ABOUT A VIRUS OR PROBLEM
WITH YOUR COMPUTER! NEVER.
Do not call the number given in the message! Do not let unknown persons remotely access your computer. Do not give unknown persons your credit card info.
If you are ever in doubt, call me or text me at 480-433-9995 for help.
Or take these steps to get out of the lock.
Try to close your browser completely.
If that doesn’t work, hit Ctrl+Alt+Del to open your Task Manager and force the browser to close.
If that doesn’t work, power off the computer. Hold the power button down several seconds until it forces a shut down.
Unplug your modem. Then restart the computer. If the message shows up again, try to close it again. There is no Internet connection so it can’t do any harm at this point.
Shut down the computer again. Re-plug the modem. Turn on the computer. Open your browser.
If you see the message again, call one of my hardware referrals. Let them clean up the problem.
If you don’t see the message, say a gratitude prayer!

A/B Testing
While this article mentions non-profits, the concepts discussed apply to all businesses. A/B testing takes a little time and creativity but it can really hone your marketing and increase its effectiveness. Even if you A/B test once a quarter, you will learn from the results and your marketing will improve.
The End of Using Your Facebook Personal Profile for Business
I received a notice from HootSuite which is a tool I use for scheduling social media posts. They are an official Facebook Partner.
HootSuite will no longer allow me to make a post to a personal Facebook profile. So I can make a post and schedule it to any other social media platform. I can schedule to Facebook business pages or groups. But I can’t post to a personal profile.
Why? Facebook is tightening up on people who use personal profiles for business. It has always been against their rules. But since January when the new algorithm came out, they are watching personal profiles more closely. Having HooSuite block personal profile posts is one more step.
PLEASE! Stop making business posts on your personal profile now! Set up a FB business page and use it to promote your business. I know it sometimes seems harder to make a business page work for you. But you need to abide by Facebook’s rules or they will shut down your personal profile. They can turn you off with no notice, with no recourse. You can send complaints and requests to be reinstated but who knows if you’ll get an answer.
