Recently I met a new person at a networking event. We exchanged cards. In the brief time we had to talk, it sounded like we could do business together. When I got back to my office, I went to her website to learn more about her. There was nothing there! Just a pretty picture. No detail on what she does. Why she does it. How she does it. Nothing. What a lost opportunity! Her site should have explained her business to me and made it easy for me to schedule a meeting with her to see if we could do business together.
New from Constant Contact
Constant Contact is a long time favorite of mine for email marketing. I like their interface. I like their Knowledge Base. I LOVE their live tech support.
Now they are expanding to become a broader digital marketing company. What’s new so far?
LogoMaker – For the long term, you can’t do without a high quality logo for your company. But this logo maker is a starting point. It is also a great option for a special logo for an event, a product introduction, a new service announcement.
Social Media Posts & Analytics – You can schedule posts for Facebook and Instagram from your Constant Contact account. And you can read your analytics from CtCt.
Website Builder – It seems everyone has a website builder these days. I’m leery of them because they are proprietary software which limits your website. The advantage the CtCt builder has is that it is an interface you are already familiar with. Your learning curve would be lower. If you are considering a small, simple website, I recommend looking at the CtCt option. The site would, of course, have an opt in that would connect directly with your CtCt email list.
How To Keep Your Website Updated
Your Website is Important!
88% of consumers say they check out a company online before making a purchase. Even if they’ve met you at a networking event, heard about you from a friend, seen your ad, etc. They’re going to look at your website to see who you are. So be sure your website clearly answers their questions. Think about it. What questions do you get asked the most? Especially from prospects and new clients. Are those answers easily accessible on your site? If not, let’s get it done today!
How to Use Facebook to Drive More Traffic to Your Blog
This article does a really nice job of outlining how to use FB posts to drive traffic to your website. They are talking about blogs specifically but the same principles work to drive traffic to any page of your website. We’ve talked about these steps before but I thought it would be good to hear the “lecture” from someone new! LOL
Please take time to read this! If you understand the overall principles, you and I can do a better job implementing the steps. You can call me with any questions this brings up.
Facebook posts can be very effective. But they don’t work as a shoot and splatter technique! They have to be purposeful.

Time for a new website?
“All things considered, the growth of websites has been quite remarkable thanks in large part to a decision on April 30th, 1993 by CERN. This decision made the world wide web available on a basis that was free of royalties.
In essence, it became a public domain which allowed people around the world to create their own websites.
It is interesting to note that the growth of the internet started in the 1970s and continued on a limited basis until the early 1990s. However, the world wide web itself is credited to Tim Berners-Lee, who began it in March, 1989 and introduced the first server, browser, and editor along with HTTP and HTML.”

Does Your Website Need a FAQ Page?
Many websites have an FAQ Page as part of their navigation. Maybe it would be beneficial for your site. Consider these questions to see if you need one.
- Do you have questions that clients ask frequently, repetitively? Yes? Then an FAQ Page would be a good addition.
- Let me point out, however, that the answers should be covered in detail elsewhere on your website. If the answer is important there should be a Page or a blog post with a full answer. The FAQ is a concise answer. The FAQ can include a link to the more detailed answer.
- Do you need content for SEO purposes? Yes? An FAQ Page would be a good addition.
The more solid content you have on your site describing your business, services or products, the happier Google and other search engines will be with your site and the higher you will rank in search results. The FAQ Page gives you the opportunity to put the same answer in two places! As the Page content will be more extensive than the FAQ answer, you won’t have duplicate content either. Another SEO plus.
Linking from FAQ answers to other pages of your site also give you internal links which are a benefit in SEO.
- Do you have a large site with numerous pages? Yes? An FAQ Page would be a good addition.
A good rule of thumb is to have your most important information within 2 clicks for your site visitors. So content on a level 2 or level 3 page can be made quickly accessible with an FAQ Page. Your answer includes a link to the page with the detailed answer.
- Do you include information for industry associations, industry experts, etc. for credibility for your business? Yes? An FAQ Page would be a good addition.
Your website can become a resource for your visitors. They know you have links, posts and other information relevant to your industry. An FAQ answer can include a link to another website. I would use this sparingly but it can be helpful. Outside links to credible sites do have value for SEO purposes. But the real value is being trusted as a good resource to your visitors. They can skip googling a question because they know the answer is on your site and easy to find.
Some sites use an Industry Links Page for this purpose. FAQs go beyond a link to the organization’s Home Page and give specific answers. Does someone offer CAD drawings or safety guidelines or a metric conversion chart? Does someone have a great checklist or how-to article? If your clients ask for this type of information frequently, consider putting it on your website on a Page or blog. Or use an FAQ to direct people to the information.

Expanding Google Search Requirements
This message recently appeared in my Inbox.
In plain words, Google is now indexing / ranking my website based on my mobile version. Luckily I have a mobile-friendly website already.
Because the amount of searching done from SmartPhones and tablets is growing, Google is putting more emphasis on mobile websites.
Most businesses need a “mobile-friendly” site. When you visit from your SmartPhone, you see the same website. It’s just arranged differently to view easier on a SmartPhone. Some businesses – restaurants, dry cleaners, retail stores, etc. need a separate mobile website. Since a large portion of their visitors are coming from mobile, their sites need to be customized for the mobile viewer. For example, if I’m trying to find Zappone’s Italian Bistro to pick up a pizza on the way home, I don’t care about the company history or management team. Just show me where to go for the pizza!

What is Duplicate Content? Does It Harm Your Site?
A great way to beef up your website content and educate your visitors is to share websites and articles from other sources. Industry sites. Industry magazines. Expert articles.
Your best method is to write a short intro using your keywords and showing your expertise on the topic THEN link to the article.
There is a proper way to it and this article walks you through the pros and cons.
